Education

Our region boasts award-winning public and private schools, with six schools designated National Schools of Excellence, twenty-five schools designated WV Schools of Excellence, a low teacher/student ratio, technologically advanced classrooms, a full range of gifted programs, and complete programs for mental and/or physical disabilities.

Hospitals

Wheeling Hospital has served the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia, Eastern Ohio and parts of Pennsylvania longer than any other hospital in West Virginia. The hospital has 247 beds, and the medical staff totals 275 primary care and specialty physicians.

Ohio Valley Medical Center, founded in 1890 as City Hospital, is a 200-bed health care facility located in the heart of downtown Wheeling, West Virginia.

Founded in 1906 as Martins Ferry Hospital by local physician Dr. R.H. Wilson, East Ohio Regional Hospital is a 140-bed health care facility located in downtown Martins Ferry, Ohio. Having begun its tradition of healing with only 30 beds and five physicians, EORH has flourished with the expansion of services and the addition of new health care facilities and centers.

Shopping

The Ohio Valley is home to The Highlands, a popular destination shopping, dining, and entertainment complex, including such attractions as Cabela’s Outdoor Outfitters and major retailers such as Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Best Buy, and TJ Maxx, among many others. The Wheeling area also has a number of other retail stores that offer a wide variety of products, most of which centrally located near National Road or the historic Centre Market area of Wheeling. We are also in close proximity to shopping districts such as Robinson Towne Centre in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Strip District, and Tanger Outlets in Washington, PA.
